Amazons in America: Women at War in the American Revolution

Amazons in America: Women at War in the American Revolution In-Person

As divisions during the American Revolutionary War between the front and the home collapsed, American women stepped forward to defend their homes, communities, and the new nation. Join us as Professor Gina Martino of the University of Akron shares how Revolutionary women engaged in a wide range of martial activities: from making bullets and serving as spies to provisioning the army and operating artillery.

Quote from a letter written by Abigail Adams to John Adams on September 20, 1776:

"If our Men are all drawn off and we should be attacked, you would find a Race of Amazons in America."
