President Wilson and Post-WWI Peacemaking In-Person

Learn about President Wilson's diplomatic efforts for post-war global peace from 1918 to 1919.

At the end of World War I, President Wilson led the post-war peacemaking process. He personally presented a revolutionary vision to prevent future wars through global disarmament, democracy, free trade, open diplomacy, and a League of Nations. But his Fourteen Points (of diplomacy) were dismantled by European leaders, who secretly crafted a treaty with harsh punishments for Germany. Back home, Senate Republicans refused to ratify the treaty ending Wilson's plans for a new global order.

Kent State University professor, Ralph Menning, presents Striding onto the World Stage, Stumbling Off: The Wilsonian Moment and Peacemaking, 1918-1919. Menning teaches the history of international relations and modern European history at Kent State University, Stark campus.
