Teen Short Story Writing Contest

Choose one of the two prompts from below and write a 2,000–5,000 word story in any genre. There are two categories: middle school and high school. Winners will receive gift cards from local Barberton businesses. Email your typed story as a PDF to Teen Librarian Sarah Granville at sarah.granville@barbertonlibrary.org with “Writing Contest” as the subject. Submissions must include your full name and phone number.

Deadline: February 28.
Handwritten entries will not be accepted.


Prompt One: 

Write a story about a person who becomes famous overnight. What are they famous for? How are the other people in their life affected? Do they stay famous? 

Prompt Two: 

Write a short story about an abandoned amusement park. Why did it close? What kind of attractions are still there? Why does your character go there?
